Shatshore is one of the oldest NGO in Assam, India founded and run by Dr. Mandira Barua with motive to enhance Social and cultural development in North-East India. Shatshore was established in the year 2002 and was registered under S.R Act,XXI of 1860 in the year 2007. Till date Shatshore has more than 100000+ (one lakh) volunteers who work tirelessly day and night for the betterment and development of the society.
Shatshore specially works for the upliftment of women and tries to provide livelihood to the weaker section of women by providing financial gaining project and engaging them and lead them to stand on their own feet. Its main aim is to make women self-dependent and self oriented in different spheres of life.
Shatshore is also concerned to the development of cultural heritage of Assam. SHATSHORE is currently running several musical and cultural schools in many remote villages of Assam where thousands of young children are learning different leagues of extinct musical instruments and are able to capture the cultural heritage of Assam.
Shatshore aims to promote rich Assamese culture to a more international platform and show the world how beautiful, musical and festive it is, and how it brings men, women and children together.
Shatshore is determined to go on working towards assisting those who are in distress, offering medical aid to the sick, creating awareness in the society against superstition and evil practices, advocating for human and socio-economic rights of women, sustaining a healthy social ambience through art, culture, literature and sports.
Shatshore had also set up a nursing education centre in the year 2009 named as "The Mandira Solution", with a view to solve partially the burning problem of unemployment in Assam, specially for BPL (Below Poverty Line) girls. Girls have been enabled to be self-dependent as a nurse or domestic help or care taker. A good number of girls have been appointed as nurses by many reputed nursing home and hospitals like Nemcare Hospital, Pratiksha Hospital etc. Similarly, in the year 2010, the "Pyramid Travel Agency" was set up and more than two hundred rural youths were engaged by the agency. They are taking care of their families and serving the public, after they qualified themselves as successful drivers.
Every year, certain actions have been taken to create a better society by holding programs on health and environment. Shatshore strictly oppose to the use of polythene. As such, it has organized awareness program, meetings and taken steps to distribute cloth bags in the shops through 800 Selp Help Groups. Workshops on prevention of cancer, specially breast cancer have been organized by Shatshore.
Shatshore started its own actions, Swachch Abhiyan as far back in 2010 creating awareness among vendors who set up shop on footpath. Meat shops were removed from footpaths as they spoiled the environment.
Shatshore has also been organizing workshop on "Yoga" for children who are the furure citizins of the country. It has also organized "Cricket matches" among "differently abled children" and encourages them for good health and hygiene. They have also been assisted financially. Installations of stalls by self help groups, have also been organized for the benefit of economically weaker section among the women. Distribution of cloths among poor women is another important program taken by the NGO. Sewing machines have also been distributed among them and an amount of Rs 10000 has been offered to each woman who made efforts to be self employed. Shatshore Usha Sewing Schools at Jayanagar has opened the door for self-employment to at least 10 girls.
Shatshore has also taken up certain research oriented plans for the benefit of healthy transgender to wean them away from begging.
During the period of natural disaster, Shatshore has always stood in the front to assist the affected people. It has distributed assistance in the form of cash to the affected. It has also taken steps to rescue wild animals during floods. When communal clashes were going on in Kokrajhar, few members volunteered to visit the place and helped the affected.
Shatshore took initiative to bring "Black Deer" to the Assam State zoo from Mysore. It has always been working towards the preservation of tigers and shown sympathy towards animals. Tree plantation program is also an initiative of Shatshore.
On 31 March 2019, Shatshore organized the performance of 837 nasoni (female Bihu dancers) ,200 dhuliya (male Bihu dancers) and 20 pepuwa (pipers) and performed live in Guwahati. This was then a world record and was mentioned in India's World Records 2020.
On October 2019, Dr. Mandira Baruah (President , Shatshore) along with few members visited Beijing, China for a week tour to study how some renowned NGO's of China work for enhancing their society. This tour helped to learn how to work collectively and effectively to build a healthier and progressive society.
To date, Dr. Mandira Baruah diverts her own savings to sustain the momentum of her work which is owned by a group of past and present members. For her, it is important to keep the Shatshore flag hoisted. As the word spread, more people has joined the NGO in different capacities. Some provided expertise and services, others came in to give motivational talks and many offered to fund projects, special drives and public events. Assam State Culture and Women and Child Development departments regularly step forward to disburse funds for campaigns and other mass mobilization activities.
Shatshore always welcomes to those who want to be part of it or provide financial help and work for the development of the society.
Shatshore is currently associated with numerous society building activities and will continue to do all the current activities. Besides, there are a few plans set by SHATSHORE which could prove to be very effective in coming days for Assam and its people:
Seeing the noble work of Shatshore, Mr. Uday Phukan, a renowned noble businessman of Tinsukia has donated 1.5 bighas of land in Makum, Tinsukia, Assam to carry out some society progressive work. So Shatshore is planning to build an old-age home with all the required facilities for senior citizens who face lots of problem during their old age. Shatshore heartily welcomes to all who want to be part of this noble journey by providing financial aid and help in building the old-age home.
Shatshore is currently running several musical and cultural schools in many remote villages of Assam where thousands of young children are learning different leagues of extinct musical instruments and are able to capture the cultural heritage of Assam. Now Shatshore is planning to open such schools in every district of Assam. Any amount of donation for such noble cause would be heartily accepted.
Shatshore also has plans to feed the poor and hungry around the state. In India, many homeless people lives on public places of highways, railway stations and bus stops.
Shatshore aims to feed the hungry homeless destitute, abandoned senior citizens, migrant workers, children to eradicate hunger, malnutrition and food wastage.

Shatshore is planning to provide financial help to talented and bright BPL (below poverty line) students to continue their higher studies in different fields who could be nation builder in future. Shatshore is also planning to organize an International Ayurvedic Expo in Guwahati in later half of this year with the help of a few dignitaries. So Shatshore welcomes everyone to the event and make it successful by offering valuable suggestions and well wishes.
